Bar / 2001
Materials: Tarpaulin, wood, beer tap and fridge
Dimensions: 1.80 m by 0.60m by 0.90m
Bar in which existing formal typologies are diffused in relation to function. The idea of opening up formal typologies was triggered by seeing a documentary about the invention of the protein solution “Activa” that binds several scraps of meat together into one seamless piece of meat. In the early days of this invention, “Activa“ was only used to recreate existing types of meat, even though possibilities were vast.

workscarpet2.jpgCarpet / 2003
Materials: Wool in 12 colours
Dimensions: 1.35 m by 1.82m
In order to escape the widely used fashion high-gloss photography format, Marloes ten Bhömer commissioned DESSO to produce a carpet depicting a photograph of the “Carbonfibreshoe”. The image has been divided into a certain amount of pixels that match the amount of woollen strings that make up the carpet. A machine shoots the strings into a perforated metal plate, after which these are trimmed, a backing applied and the carpet removed from the plate.

Digital photograph
The photograph re-stages Naomi Campbell’s toppling over on Vivienne Westwood’s catwalk for the Anglomania collection of Autumn/Winter 1993. The original image has become one of the most influential fashion photographs, despite its depiction of something that went wrong on the catwalk and might instigate that the function of shoes go beyond walking.
